10 Options To Work From Home

As life is ever-changing, so is the way we work. No longer do we live in an age where there is some dedicated to take care of the home and the children. Instead, we have the world where we are pushed to work so hard that our mental health suffers. Needless to say, there are people who enjoy going to a dedicated place of work. You get to meet new people, develop skills and potentially even travel. However, there are also plenty of people who would benefit from working from home. The good news is, we have access to the entire world from our fingertips. Here are a few different job options if you want to work from home.

1. Build your own business

This is often the most attractive option for various reasons; one being that not only do you get to work from home but you are also your own boss. Your business can be whatever you want it to be. It could be blogging, vlogging, make-up, hairdressing, jewellery making, etc. You are in control of how you work and what you do in a day.

The negative is that this can consume your life. You only get paid if your business does well. Holiday’s don’t really come into play and it can take some time before you see any income. Not only that but often you have to invest your own money which isn’t always a viable option.

2. IT jobs

Almost any computing job can be done from home providing you have access to a computer and the internet. Since the pandemic, a lot of companies are happy for their IT team to work remotely and these jobs are often highly paid. If you don’t have experience in this industry, there are plenty of ways to learn online and the interview process usually relies on completing a technical task so don’t let your qualifications put you off.

Jobs can include: security analyst, graphic designer, website developer, social media manager, programmer, website tester, etc.

3. Customer Service

This is something that again has changed since the pandemic. Rather than businesses needing customer service representatives to be all in one place, a few of them can work from home, especially if you are answering emails rather than phone calls.

Customer service follows procedures so it is possible to do well without being surrounded by your team. However, training may require going to a training centre rather than being done virtually. This type of job is entirely dependent on the company’s policies.

4. Counselling

A lot of private counsellors operate from home. They can conduct their sessions over the phone, over video call or face to face if they choose. Operating from the comfort of your own home means that you can be flexible with your working times. You can work for yourself or sometimes you can work for a bigger organisation as one of their team (almost like a franchise).

To be a counsellor, you need qualifications and experience. The process to getting these can be time-consuming and costly, which may outway the purpose of working from home.

5. Surveys/Reviews

A popular option can be to be a product reviewer. Brands will often pay people to test and review their products for a decent pay. Often, you sign up to some kind of review website where you fill in surveys to get rewards and even get sent products to review.

The negative thing about this is sometimes you end up receiving a lot of phone calls from people taking surveys or you can struggle to access the rewards you have. It’s also time-consuming, unless you get picked up by a particular company to test their products continuously. It’s a competitive industry though as a lot of people do this to make money on the side.

6. Caretaking

Often, one of the reasons we want to work from home is so that we can take care of family, most often children or pets. If that’s the case, then caretaking can be a viable option as you are effectively already carrying out that work.

If you are thinking of looking after children, then there are certain qualifications and licenses that you’d need.If your are thinking to take care of pets then you may not need qualifications but experience is crucial for the wellbeing of the animal.

7. Virtual Learning

A lot of people are now taking to learning online which means that their are more opportunities for online tutors. This can mean that you’re self-employed but it’s possible to get work through an educational platform.

Pay is likely to be hourly but depending on your expertise, you can charge a lot per hour without having to leave your home. You would just need to make sure you have the right equipment to have high quality video calls.

8. Virtual Assistant

Businesses want to run as efficiently and effectively as possible and their employees help them do that. The job description for a virtual assistant varies as per the company needs. Sometimes it can mean being a customer service assistant, other times it can mean being a personal assistant to the directors of the business. Usually you need experience with some kind of secretarial work as well as being familiar with technology so that you can function efficiently.

9. Consulting

This is similar to online learning but more targeted towards small businesses or those who are self-employed. You can be a consultant in different areas such as tax or social media management. The biggest thing that you need to show is experience. Businesses won’t pay for your advice unless they see that you have brought results previously. And with sectors like tax, you need to have some kind of qualifications as it is a complex part of law. Consulting does come highly paid though.

10. Bookkeeping

This one can be done from home but does rely on you having some accountancy knowledge. Businesses often need assistance with bookkeeping and, thanks to modern technology, this can be done from the comfort of your own home.

As you can see, there are plenty of options that allow you to work from home. There are plenty of remote jobs now since the pandemic as people have already adjusted, therefore, businesses no longer see a need to force their employees to be in an office. The main thing is to find an option that allows you the flexibility you need as well as something you enjoy or are good at. There is something out there for everyone.
