Below is my Goodreads review of Getting Away With Murder by Kathryn Foxfield. It’s a YA thriller, with an escape room theme, along with your stereotypical high school characters.

It’s a book that unfortunately I did not enjoy much, mostly because of the misleading title (see the review for more) and the feeling like I was reading a book based off of a film franchise. It was lacking something for me.
That being said, there are a number of interesting points, one being the inspiring theme of achieving the seemingly unachievable. That’s always a good message to have, especially in YA fiction. We want to believe that we can overcome adversity even when it seems impossible to do so.
I admire authors who try to leave a positive impact on the world through their storytelling. You can have thrillers/horrors/comedies that still carry some positive messages throughout. After all, we usually escape into fiction because it helps us to feel better.
