Powerful is an accompanying book to the main Powerless Triology written by Lauren Roberts. As a big fan of the original book, I was both excited and apprehensive for this story. We know the ending and I wasn’t sure if it would be worth reading.
The characters are likeable but the plot is lacking and it made me think about the publishing industry. Did this book come into existence because the author really was passionate about this story or is it because the first book was so successful, that they decided to expand the franchise?
It’s a difficult topic to discuss because I am all for supporting authors but it does grow tiring when the creative industries are dictated by bigger businesses who just want to earn as much money as possible. It can be seen as a win-win situation to most as authors get more money, the business gets more money and the readers get more of their favourite characters. However, I feel as though it stops creativity flowing as you have people who want to write just to become successful as opposed to being passionate about telling stories. As well as that, it means that it is harder for newer authors to break into the industry and once they do, they are encouraged to stick to their lane.
Powerful (the book) encompasses that issue for me. No-one really talks about it anymore and it was only released a few months ago. It was a passing phase. Nevertheless, I read it and enjoyed certain parts but below is my Goodreads review.
