My Goodreads review of Ten Dates written by Rachel Dove. A rom-com where the main character suffers amnesia after a bad car accident. When she wakes up, she can’t remember her partner, or the last few years of her life. Can they find their way back to each other after only ten dates?
It’s a cute book, with a nice story, but sadly it just wasn’t for me. It took way too long to get to the main part of the story. The title gives the premise away so it’s annoying for it to take a long time, to get to where the title already lands you.
The one thing I did really like was the idea of soulmates. I’m a hopeless romantic so of course it’s nice to read a happy ending, even if the journey can be a little boring. What’s interesting about this story, is that she struggles to trust her past self decision of the person she loved. She no longer feels capable of understanding her emotions because she is effectively a few years behind. It makes you question how you would deal with the situation if you were in either characters position. How would you cope with the love of your life forgetting all of your intimate moments together? How would you feel looking at a person knowing they are well-acquainted with a different version of you that is no longer there?
