The Diary Of A CEO - Book Review

The Diary of A CEO by Steven Bartlett carries the same name as his podcast. Following his success, Bartlett has released a book sharing his view on the 33 laws of business and life. A motivational book for those looking to pursue their dreams in business.

Below is my full Goodreads review, but in this post, I wanted to share my thoughts on Steven Bartlett. I only learned about him through Dragon’s Den, a show I am greatly fond of. He was the youngest ever dragon on the show and brought a fresh perspective as his success rides heavily on marketing through social media, whereas the other dragons are more traditional with their successes.

Honestly, I’m not his biggest fan. I haven’t read his other books and I’m not a regular listener to his podcast (although I did tune into the one with Simon Cowell). However, this book appealed to me with it’s concise chapters and I enjoy learning more about the business world so this was the perfect opportunity to learn from an expert.

Generally, the book left me feeling good and motivated. However, as it wasn’t groundbreaking, it also left me wanting more. Perhaps more practical advice. The truth is, in business there is a need for being in the right place at the right time as well as being consistent.

Take social media for example. Those who are most successful in their influencer careers, are the ones who are willing to publish content multiple times a day. It’s like with anything, the more you put in, the more you are likely to get out. That’s not to say it’s guaranteed, it’s just a probability.

In this book, we learn snippets about Steven Bartlett’s success which is deinfitley interesting. But nothing is that applicable to the majority. He worked hard to get to where he is, but it’s not something that can be replicated, as with most successful business tycoons.

I don’t think there are a lot of business secrets, and this definitley isn’t a book that will guarantee to bring you success. What it does do well, is offer an insight into what it takes to start-up your own and the mindset you should have if you want to give it a good shot.
